The Metropolitan Public Library of Gdynia is the organiser of the “Direction-Image” sector conference and co-organiser, together with the City of Gdynia, of one of the most prestigious literary awards in Poland – the Gdynia Literary Award.
In branches spread across twenty locations, professionally trained staff await readers.
The libraries have in place inspiring suggestions for every age group and every reading preference. The Metropolitan Public Library of Gdynia offer, in addition to paper books and audiobooks, also includes vinyl records, magazines, comics, manga – which have been in a real renaissance in recent years, board games, as well as provides access to tens of thousands of e-books on the Legimi platform. With foreigners in mind, we also give access to foreign-language literature and organise language courses.
For younger readers, we also bring about specially arranged spaces waiting, allowing them to spend time actively and safely.
Regardless of the pandemic situation in the world, the Metropolitan Public Library of Gdynia strives to offer its readers access to a diverse and high-quality culture. During the pandemic, we managed to implement online activities at no time, using new promotion channels to reach our readers, taking into account the needs of different age groups.
In the summertime, you will be able to find the Gdynia Library on the beach as part of the “Book Harbour” event. We gather sunbeds, blankets, pillows and books for you, we organise meetings with authors and workshops for children. Yet, if you prefer contactless rental, you can use the book vending machine all year round – the first such device in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
